Time management

Prioritise your time. If you have a to-do list that is just getting too out of hand, split them into groups.

Start with what is crucial and important. Then move onto what’s important but not crucial and so on. Slowly but surely you will chip away at your tasks and won’t feel so overwhelmed by everything you need to get done.

Make sure you like your job

If you hate what you do, you aren’t going to be happy. Of course it is unlikely that you are going to like every single aspect of the work you have to do. However, you need to be happy enough that you aren’t finding yourself absolutely dreading going every morning.

Focus on your Strengths

Don’t overload yourself with work. Focus on the aspects of your work that you know you can do well yourself and outsource others to help with tasks that are not you strong suit. This will save you both time and energy.

Set aside personal time

When a time comes where personal issues may arise, it can be tempting to submerge yourself in work. However, if you don’t set aside some ‘me’ time to look after your health and spend time with your loved ones, you won’t have a business to go back to.

Have set working hours

Set your work hours and do everything you can to stick to them. Especially if you are self-employed because before you know it, you could be up working till midnight taking from your much needed personal time.

Tap into technology

Instead of driving to meetings all of the time. Set up a means to have video conferences on Skype/ another media. Just make sure you don’t forget to switch them off.

Be realistic

At the end of each of your working days take a few minutes to perform a small self-analysis. What worked for you during the day, what didn’t? If any issues arose be solution focused. In addition don’t be afraid to reach out for help/ support when you are finding something hard to resolve.

Turn mistakes into comebacks

In life often we learn more from our mistakes than from our successes. Everyone experiences setbacks and it’s important to remember that it’s not mistakes that define us but our reactions to them, so keep working on improving what’s going wrong and you will get there.

Manage your mind

When any self-doubt or anxiety enters your mind, do some work on your mental health. Meditation or reading may help clear your mind. Spend time with someone who will lift your spirits and support you.
